Sundry Thoughts On Irrelevant Issues

So howsabout Vlad the Impaler's latest proposal to avert an American plan to install a missile defence shield in Eastern Europe?

Not a bad gambit by Putin - looks like a sound compromise in theory - however I'm quite sure the Yanks won't bite. The Azerbaijani radar base in question is reportedly a Soviet-era clunker and will require extensive refitting with lots of fancy American gadgetry (that's probably several generations ahead of the best the Russians currently field) if it's to serve the Americans' stated purpose. And if it's going to be jointly run by the US and Russia, I expect the Yanks will baulk at the risk of technology transfer to a nation that could well grow into a role of strategic opponent of the United States.

Still, smart move by Putin. Makes him look like a peacemaker, and an American refusal will easily be portrayed as belligerant obduracy.

Okay, we're now returning you to your scheduled programming - the test pattern. Enjoy!

Hey, you're out there in foreign lands, doing goodness knows what with that attractive young lady, and you may or may not have an apartment with "a nice ken", but do we hear about any of this?

Nooooooooo.

You give us Putin!

BTW - he's not especially looking like a "peace maker" in the local or US papers. And someone needs to stop murdering Russian journalists for "peace" to be a viable work in the same sentence as "Putin" - 14 journalists murdered in the last several years. No, the peace image isn't working for me.

Ah, Cazzy. You underestimate BDS - Putin isn't Bush, so he's a peacemaker. QED.

But you're right. I should add another instalment to my escapades. Watch this space! (Okay, I know I've said that for at least a month and a half now...)

Yeah James, your "daily" postings are wearing me out, I swear I can't keep up.

PS. Indeed, when is the wedding; are we invited?

Cazzy, you're all mixed up. The idea with The Daily Constitutional is that you swing by daily to check if my monthly post is up yet!

Re. the wedding - you can come if you bring a plate.
