Why am I not surprised?
Gave your chicken recipe a burl this afternoon after spending half the day hunting down one of the ingredients (star anise buds). Pretty good stuff.
Timmy, star anise isn't that hard to find! Most supermarkets have it, ya chump.
I hope you left the chicken to cool for a good long spell after you boiled it - then it gets extra tender. Also, it's yummiest if you drizzle the soy sauce over it immediately before eating...like when it's on your plate and about to go into your mouth.
Also, light soy sauce is best for ths. You may have to go to an Asian grocer to find it.
Woolies had some ground star anise, but I wanted it whole or nothing. Went to two delis and neither of them had it, but the guy at one of them told me about another place in Brunswick that I'd be able to get them from. I made a day of it and got some groceries while I was down there.
Gee willikers, what are you lot doing over there? No star anise in your supermarkets? This is what happens when the Labor govts stay in power too long!
Tim - although you now have some star anise in hand, and may never run out, and although you now know you can get more at the place in Brunswick, if all else fails, next time you can pop into the city to the Spellbox Shop (the one in Little Bourke, near corner of Hardware Lane - upstairs). Witches use star anise, so there's usually a goodly supply of un-crushed stars.
