Some of the more, erm, intemperate right-wing blogs are angered by the recent MSM and political hand-wringing about that incident whereby a plane-load of passengers demanded the ejection of two of their fellow passengers from the flight - a pair of men of "Asian appearance" who the others deemed suspicious. On this matter, I share Amit Varma's opinion.

Gee, I'm trying to rememeber when, in history, people dobbed each other in, based purely on "instinct" ....
This isn't only a win for terrorism, it's far more disturbing than that.
One of many ironies in this situation is that all of those people no doubt believe, absolutely believe, that they are actually "safer" if people can't take a laptop or a tub of hair gel onto a plane, which is total rubbish, but yeah, perception is everything, and the most meaningless "security" gestures are perceived to be valid by a gullible and paranoid public.
This incident speaks of a very ugly future, which has nothing to do with well-founded "instincts". I'm appalled at the extent of this stupidity.
I was surprised at the demographic on the plane, too. I expected them to be members of the British greater unwashed that has a penchant for making its way down to Spain periodically, however some of the alarmed passengers were middle class and educated and should know better.
