Apparently, we in the West "fundamentally misunderstand" the situation in the Muslim world. He proves his point by relating the insight of Ziauddin Sardar, who,

while travelling in Pakistan, realised that the greatest threat didn't come from madrassas but from the military government, warmly embraced by the West, especially Britain, America and Australia.

Oh, Ant, you mean Ziauddin Sardar, the postmodernist? Who co-wrote this book, which has been favourably reviewed by none other than your holy prophet Noam? And who followed up with this book, which was also given a glowing endorsement by the Chomper? What a surprising insight from a man of such views! I recently heard another shocking revelation from a guy with no visible bias : Michael Moore has realised that he thinks George Bush is stupid! Really, who saw that coming? Anyhoo, you can feel confident resting your case on Ziauddin's say-so.

I really wish I was a left-winger. It would make original blogging so much easier. All I'd need to do is assemble a bunch of unrelated, discrete and - more often than not - dubious facts, tales and memes, lash them all together, drop some acid and see where it takes me. Suddenly, I'll have a big scoop along the lines of

Who cares if the march of history proves me incorrect time and time again - I'll get maximum props from the lefty choir and perhaps an academic posting if I'm really outlandishly, wildly off-the-mark.
